The State Of Our Economy

WCDII 2011 12 13 800 1000 240x300 The State Of Our EconomyMany people wonder why it is that I have decided to run and some don’t even think that I should be running as they don’t see the point. There is a very important point for running because I feel that the interests of the district are not being fairly represented. I feel that the problems of the district are not being duly addressed. I feel that we the residence and voters of the district do not have a voice in government that is properly reflecting our values and our needs. The person that is sent to Washington is supposed to reflect what it is that our district wants and work to see that its needs are met.

Do you feel the needs of the district have been meet when ours has one of the highest unemployment rate in the State of Florida? Do you feel that transportation has been adequately funded throughout the entire district or has it just been in a few places? Do you feel that our schools have the federal funding that they need to be able to excel, that they can give us the graduates that we need? Do you think that we have all the tools that are needed so that our district can grow and prosper? I don’t think we have what it is that we need to see any of this happen. I feel that we are not being fully and fairly represented in Washington as we should be. Yes the incumbent Jeff Miller is all for the veterans and the military and I commend that. I don’t feel that he is doing enough though to be able to address the needs and problems of the entire district.

We need good solid roads in our area. It does no good if one county has clean paved roads and the next is full of potholes. That doesn’t promote travel, it doesn’t prompt tourism, it doesn’t promote job growth. A road or street full of holes just makes the entire area look uninviting and not worth the time even though our area is very worth the time. We want people traveling through the area. We want those same travelers to stop and eat at our restaurants and shop at our stores. We want them to be spending money in our area and not just trying to get to the other side of it so they don’t have to look at us. We want them to want to be here, to spend their money and to learn more about us. The more that they learn the more that they will want to actually stay for a time.

If we are more attractive and have the proper infrastructure in place then we will see more jobs come into the area. We have a great deal of people that are out of work that desperately want to work but the jobs are not there. We need to have good paying jobs not just what can be found that pays the minimum wage. We need technological jobs and manufacturing jobs in the area that will contribute to the community and the economy. I don’t see policies in place that would help to see that become a reality. We need jobs all across the district and not just in a few spots. We need to have our entire district glow with opportunity and we need that now.

As to education we see more and more people just dropping out. They don’t see any future for themselves at all. They can’t see any way out. We need to give them encouragement. We need to see that they have prospects for the future. We need to make sure that they will not need to collect a welfare check or be put on food stamps. We need to make sure that they are ready for tomorrow. They need to be taught how to see the potential that they have and not just how to take a test. The policies that are in place for students are not conducive to learning, just how to get by. We need them to excel and be passionate about learning so that they themselves can help our economy grow. If they are educated properly then they will in turn create jobs in our area that they and others will be able to work at.

I know that when I am traveling through the various towns in the district I see more and more just how bad the economy is for us. I see plants tore down to move away. I see shops going out of business. I see shops boarded up because they don’t have customers. It is not because they were not good at managing their businesses it is that they lost business because of the economy. The economy that fostered the grab it all before it is gone mentality. We can’t afford to have that kind of thinking now. We need to all be able to work and contribute to our communities. Sure it is good to volunteer but if you don’t have money to feed your family then you are not going to do anything other then try to scrape by.

If you do not see all of this in your community then you are fortunate or you are just not wanting to see it at all. Think of this and all that I have said here the next time that you hit a pot hole or the next time you see broken windows on shut down shops. Think of all the people that had to move away. Think of all the people that have been evicted because they just could not find a job. Think of all of this and you will see that we desperately need more then what we have right now. We need leadership that will not be afraid to stand up and say that all of the policies that created this have to stop.

We need citizen government and not just a career politician. We need to start electing those that want to see the areas around them grow. We need to have people that want to try and change things for the better and I feel that I am the one that can do this. The only way that I can be able to try and make a difference is if you help me help you. I need to have 2298 signatures from registered Florida Voters by May 7th of this year or I need to have $10,440 in donations to be able to pay the fee to get on the ballot. Either one will do but it needs to happen now.

I am asking all that see this page to use one of the three options below to help get things rolling. Help me help you by getting my name, William “Cleave” Drummond II on the ballot for this November’s General Election. I want to serve you but the only way that I can is with your help.
