Until I decided to run for Congress I never truly understood the term “Money and Politics” or should we say money IN politics. Soon as I was added to the active candidate list I began to receive phone calls about my campaign. They were not calls about volunteering or to give donations. No, all the calls I began to receive were that of other companies wanting to sell me something. They were calling to try and sell me on something that they said would help me win the election. If what they say is true then everyone that used their products and services would win every single time. They do want something in return though, they want thousands of dollars to make it happen. One company even told me that they would charge me $1000 a month to get me on the ballot and $2.00 a signature. Considering the time frame and the amount of signatures required it would be just about the same cost as buying my way onto the ballot. That same company also told me that they would do fund raising for me but it would take a few months to get all the PAC’s in place before I would see any donations. Considering the amount of money they wanted to receive they could just turn around and say here is all that we could raise and they would just give me back a small portion of what I paid them.
The reason there is so much corruption in politics is because they are in it for the money and not really in it to help the country or those around them. Sure you have some that will try but when you have so much money thrown around it is hard to know which ones actually have your best interest at heart. Our government was set up to be a union of states that banded together for the common good. It was not to make one person poor or another rich. It was not to make one group of people more important that others. Our government was not set up to dictate what religion we believe or even what clothes to wear but if you look at the politicians today you don’t see that. What you see is petty rivalries, bickering back and forth and then taking money from anyone that will give it to them even if it is from foreign lands or other states then where that politician is from. Does that say looking out for ones constituents? Does that say that they have the heart of the country in mind? No, it says give me all your money or what is in it for me if I do this for you.
Until we have money taken out of the equation we are never going to see true change in our country. Everyone needs to pay their FAIR share and responsibility for this country. If they are not willing to do that then they should not be here in this country at all. This is the United States of America and not the Corporate Sates of Give Me till you die states of America. There are many people her in this land with various different views and ideas. Some are good and some are bad but most are totally irritability because they do not have the money needed to pay someone off or buy out some politician. There needs to be total accountability in Washington and at every State Capitol if We The People are ever going to see a country that is ours and not just belonging to a select few.
How do we make this happen? Simple, you vote but not just vote, you also have to look at who it is that you are voting for. You have to make sure that they are going to do what it is that is needed to get the job done of governing this land and nation. From the local candidate all the way up to the President of the United States, make sure they have the people at heart and in mind when they are doing things. Don’t just go with who threw the most money at things. Don’t just go with what the local or national news is saying. Take a look at who is running and find out more about them. Don’t let just one thing stick out that you think would make them wrong. They don’t have to be the same religion as you, they don’t have to be in the same country club as you (if your lucky enough to even have enough money to be in a country club). Just make sure that what they have done and what they say they are going to do is going to be something that is going to help you and your children as well as all of your friends and neighbors around you.
Remember that you have the power and say of who is in office and if you just go after those with the most money then the “person” with the power is not you but instead it is the great god of finance and corporations, MONEY! Keep that in mind this election day, are you voting for who has the most money or are you voting for who wants to make our country a better place for everyone.
